Google launches ‘Gmail Go’ for Android - Lightweight App

Google has added another GO to it's collection.  the lightweight apps designed primarily for emerging markets – with the launch of Gmail Go. The app, like others in the Go line, takes up less storage space on users’ smartphones and makes better use of mobile data compared with the regular version of Gmail
gmail-go

This App isn't lacking in any way as it still packs the regular Gmail which includes  multiple account support, conversation view, attachments, and push notifications for new messages. It also prioritizes messages from friends and family first, while categorizing promotional and social emails in separate tabs, as Gmail does.

It doesn't consume a lot of space that  according to numerous reports, Gmail Go clocked in at a 9.51 MB download, and takes up roughly 25 MB of space on a device, compared with Gmail’s 20.66 MB download, and 47 MB storage space.

Google has not made a formal announcement about Gmail Go’s launch, but several sites have spotted its availability on the Google Play store this week. We’ve asked Google for more information about the app’s feature set, and what exactly is it that Go does to reduce the burden on low-end smartphones. The company declined to comment.

Some early adopters have pointed out that scrolling on Gmail Go is a much more choppy experience than on the standard Gmail. It also syncs fewer days of emails and attachments to use less bandwidth.

That’s not always the case with the Go-branded apps. For example, YouTube Go has several unique features, like the ability to download videos for offline viewing, and sharing videos with friends nearby, for example. In Gmail Go’s case, however, it’s only been designed to meet the size and memory requirements of Android Go.

But we have learned why Google didn’t announce Gmail Go: the app is not going to be available to all users. Instead, Gmail Go will only be available to install from the Play Store, and for update purposes, on devices that already have Gmail Go pre-installed. For now, that means only Android O Go edition devices will have the ability to use the app.

If those users prefer, they can choose to install the regular Gmail app, too, and use both side-by-side.

Gmail Go is joining a growing list of Go edition apps, including YouTube Go, Files Go, Google Go, Google Maps Go, Google and Assistant Go.

Google Chrome ad blocker Launches Today - Say Goodbye to Annoying online ads

google-chrome-ad-blocker-goes-live-todayGoogle is really taking a serious move this time as they first blocked re-directing ads in the chrome browser and we also heard recently that this summer, Chrome will move to make the internet a more secure place by labelling unencrypted websites as ‘not secure’ and what is currently on ground is that  Google is up against what it calls 'intrusive’ adverts. Against all those websites that pop up ads unexpectedly and usually unwanted ads. This aim is going to be is backed up by the newly integrated ad blocker in the Chrome web which will take effect today, 15 February. What this means is that, when the feature goes live, Google’s browser will target and block advertisements which fail to follow the ‘Better Ads Standards’ as laid out in line with consumer research by an industry watchdog.

Please be sure that not all advertising will be stopped as normal ads will still run, as many websites make their money from them in order to remain free to access. Only sufficiently annoying ads will be prevented and stopped.

For desktop PCs, that means pop-up adverts, sizable sticky adverts, video ads which autoplay with sound, and ‘prestitial’ ads which present themselves with a countdown, making the user wait for a period of time before they can close them and move on to view the site content.

When it comes to mobile devices, Google is strict as Google tends to focus more on mobile sites, blocking all the above – and all prestitial adverts – as well as flashing animated ads, full-screen scroll over affairs, and ‘dense’ advertisements which take up more than 30% of the vertical height of the web page.

If Chrome does block adverts, it will let the user know that ad blocking has happened, and also present an option to disable the blocking and allow adverts to come through on that particular site.

Advertising standards

Site owners will have the capacity to audit a report and in the event that they fall foul of the directions, they can address any issues, at that point ask for that their site be re-assessed to endeavor to accomplish a pass.

All being said and done, this is really a good move from Google as many are for the motion that these annoying ads should be stopped at all cost.

Ideally the framework will get along with sites which identify and issue notices about advertisement blocking, as well, since Chrome would already be able to hurl these kind of caution prompts as it seems to be. Ought to everything run easily, all Chrome clients will profit by a more streamlined web perusing knowledge with less in-your-confront notice intrusions.

Google Smart Go Is Now A Smart File Manager App [ Download Apk Here ]

Right now Google is currently working on an app called Files Go. Files Go is an Android file manager app that serves as a tool to keep or preserve your smartphone just as a new one .
Google-files-go

Files Go according to the description of the app, it helps you clean up space on your phone, find & manage files fast, and share files offline. Moreso, most of the features there are just similar to Galaxy S8 inbuilt system cleaner.

Google Whereabouts

Google Maps Now Allow Users Create and Share Lists of Places From Their Desktop or Laptop/Pc

For Devices Using 1GB RAM and Less, Google Has Launched the Android Go Operating System

Few days back, the app was still showing "unavailable" on the Playstore, but now the Beta version has been published on Playstore and the APK is already available on ApkMirror for you to download and install pending the time the official version would be available on the Playstore.
Google-files-go

Files Go appears to be part of the Android Go initiative that Google announced at I/O this year. Android Go aims to make the OS run more smoothly on low-end hardware, and Files Go's small 10MB size certainly seems to reflect that. If this isn't preinstalled on Android Go devices, it'll probably end up in the Playstore category for apps beneficial for the platform.

According to the app's description on Playstore, this is what the app offers;

• Help you free up more space in many more ways than before.

• Suggest removing apps you no longer use to keep your phone fast & feeling new.

• Recognize and help you remove the spam & duplicate images.

• Find your important documents without cumbersome and manual effort.

• Share your files offline - fast & secure - with the tap of a button.

Files Go looks promising as it features lots of useful functions to keep the Android system running smoothly just like new. Some smartphones of today have been lacking a good file manager, and here comes Files Go.

Google-files-go

Files Go is live on the Playstore, though you'll get a notification that the early access program is full if you try to download it, or you might )get a notification saying it's still in Beta testing and not stable. No worries, though; we've got the Files Go

➡ APK available on ApkMirror
-Download Here.

Google Files Go is out of Beta testing. It's now available for download on Playstore for everyone without any issues

Google Maps Now Allow Users Create and Share Lists of Places From Their Desktop or Laptop/Pc

Google Maps is gradually becoming a lot more social this year or could it be that there are intentions or plans of making Google Maps a social media?. At the beginning of 2017, location sharing was enabled for the masses. Google also launched a feature allowing users to create and share lists of places. However, only Android and iOS users were able to set up these lists, and web-based Google Maps users were limited to just seeing them. That's changing now, as Google begins a phased rollout of the list creation and sharing feature for desktop-bound Maps users.
Google-maps

Also SeeRevoke and Recall Messages Finally Rolled Out To WhatsApp For Everyone........See How To Use It.

You'll find the process to create and share lists on the web version of Maps is similar to the mobile experience:

Mode Of Operation.

Find a place of interest on Google Maps, click on the "Save" icon in the left pane, and add the place to an existing list or start a new one.

Once you've added a place of interest to a list, you'll see a confirmation pop up at the bottom of the map, as well as a check mark on the list you've added it to.

If you go to "Your places" (accessible via the hamburger menu), you'll see your lists under the "Saved" tab. From there, you can grab a shareable link to a list, or share it to Google+, Facebook, or Twitter. You can also choose whether to make your list private, shared, or public.
Google-maps

When you click the share icon on a list, you'll be able to set its privacy level; get a shareable link; or share it to Google+, Facebook, or Twitter.

The new feature is rolling out to Google Maps users over the next few weeks. A collaboration layer to these lists would be quite compelling, but Rome wasn't built in a day and all that.

The community of Local Guides on Google Maps was given early access to create lists on their Android and iOS smartphones way back in August 2016, though it lacked a way to share them. If you're interested in getting first looks at new Maps features, consider becoming a Local Guide. Just know that how early you get access to new goodies may depend on your Local Guide level, which is based on how many reviews you write, ratings you give, photos of places you add to Maps, and more.

Google Has Submitted An Appeal for its €2.4 Billion fine by the European Union

If you could recall, you'll remember that I dropped a post previously on Facebook receiving a fine of €110 million from the European Union. Well now it's Google's turn of receiving a fine of €2.4 billion from the European Union.
google

After months of receiving a fine of €2.4 billion from the European Union, Google has filed an appeal against the European Commission's decision to fine it a huge €2.4 billion earlier this year.

The European Commission ordered Google on June 27 to stop tampering with results on Google Shopping and gave the company two months to comply with the decision. With the September 28 date closing, Google had not asked for an interim order of the suspension, according to a court spokeswoman

The search engine company needs to come up with a proposal how it would satisfy the European Commission’s ruling to allow consumers “a choice and benefits of innovation”. Google has to change its algorithm and treat rival shopping services as equal.

Google Set To Introduce Stamp A Snapchat Like Service And Features

Earlier Last Year Google tried buying Snapchat For huge sum of $30 billion. But Evan Spiegel Snapchat CEO Refused. This has made Google quiet for some time but Presently Reported that Google is currently working on A Service which similar to Snapchat Features and is Known as Stamp.
google-stamp

Snapchat Discovery is a designated area within the Snapchat app where users can skip to a new story or ad with the swipe of a finger. Apparently, Stamp will be similar to that, with articles popping up in a magazine-like design. The word Stamp, in this case, is an acronym – ST means stories, and AMP stands for the Google Accelerated Mobile Pages initiative.

AMP, much like Facebook’s Instant Articles, allows the loading of online news stories to go at a much faster speed. Right now, Stamp is in the early stages. However, according to some reports, we could see the feature in Google Search and/or other Google apps really soon.

Concerning This Google Recently Said;

“The success of the open source AMP project is down to the constant collaboration with publishers that involves working early on upcoming features. We do not have anything to announce at the moment, but look forward to sharing more soon.”

If this feature moves beyond Google Search and into other Google apps and publisher’s websites, it could mark a very key difference between Stamp and Snapchat Discover. Since Snapchat Discover supports stories through its own app, Snapchat has developed some cool features to set itself apart from the rest of the competition.

YouTube Go Launched in Nigeria With Recent Visitation Of Google CEO Sundai Pichai.

Google CEO -Sundar Pichai- visits Nigeria and also attended a Google For Nigeria event in Lagos yesterday, July 27 2017. The visit wasn't really a surprise like that of Mark Zuckerberg.

Sundar Pichai brought along gifts and good news as the company launched a range of new products, including YouTube Go, an “offline first” version of the video sharing platform -YouTube- for users with slow internet connections.
google-ceo-visits-nigeria

YouTube Go will allow users preview and download videos, rather than stream, and essentially save on data costs. It's aimed at Nigerians because of the poor internet speed in the country.

Nigerian video content, led by the burgeoning Nollywood film industry and ‘Afrobeats’ pop stars, is extremely popular, but with slow and expensive internet access, some Nigerians limit their online viewing to the workplace where connections might be better according to executives at online video companies like IrokoTV, reports.
It’s certainly not lacking in potential. Even though Nigeria’s internet subscriber base has shrunk over the past year due to a regulatory clampdown on unregistered sim cards, the country still has over 91 million mobile internet users, according to regulators. However, that vast user base is largely undermined by unreliable connections across the country.

Nigeria has some of the slowest internet speeds of the major economies in Africa. Google is betting on its new data-friendly version of YouTube to help local users navigate that problem.

You can have a look at the picture below to see how slow Nigerian internet speed is when compared to countries in the Middle East.

Recall that the Beta version of YouTube Go was recently launched in India; and now, Nigeria will become the second country where the app is been launched.

What is your take on this?

About The Feature
The new feature gives you the ability to react to messages in a chat, just like the way it's done on Facebook Messenger. You can see the image below for what I'm talking about.
www.notedwap.com

The update is gradually rolling out worldwide. Once you have updated your Allo app, you can let your friends know exactly how you feel about any of their messages - without the need to type a word.

To react to a specific message in a chat is very simple. To react to a message, just tap the heart. The number of likes is shown at the bottom of each message. If you're using Allo on Android and can't wait for the new version rollout to reach your device via Playstore, you can manually update by downloading the latest app on APKMirror.

Hope this helps. Don't forget to share and don't forget to come to Notedwap.com

Tech News:Google Rolls Out Fact Checker Feature to War against Fake News.

Just imagine a social media platform where news aren't distorted and exaggerated just to gain attention, where information is correct. The spread of fake news has really gotten slot of people confused about which information they get on the social media is correct. Some Medias have started Waring against this, some  of which includes Facebook and Google

The Search engine giant Google has rolled out an enhanced fact check feature for all searches made on the site from today.

This comes as part of a global move to fight the proliferation of fake news and incorrect information, with rising concern over political and social use of news stories made to mislead the public like I said earlier.

Google has had this fact checking feature on Google News since October 2016 in the US and UK, but it's now been rolled out to its main search engine.

How it Works

The feature provides fact checking sites, such as Snopes and Politifact, with richer snippets in their Google search results highlighting whether a particular news story or internet myth is true of false.

This means that you can see if the news is ‘fake’ without having to actually click through and read the article.

Advantages

It doesn’t do anything to affect the ranking of the articles. If the fact check article would normally show up on page four, it will still show up on page four, just with enhanced information being displayed.

It also won't flag sites which deal in satire, so anyone fooled by those pushing out this type of content will still have to do their own investigative work to realize the web page they're reading is just a bit of fun.

Contributions From Others Against False News.

Facebook Contributions

Facebook introduced a similar, but slightly better, feature back in December 2016 with its ‘Disputed by’ tab appearing at the bottom of posts.

This means that if certain affiliated third parties - including Snopes and Politifact - disagree with a story, a tab appears at the bottom of the share window saying “Disputed by ....”, effectively intercepting the story before it can be read and disseminated.

Government Contributions

On Wednesday, the German government approved a bill that will impose fines on social media sites that fail to remove fake news or hate speech, with the time limits and fines adjusted for how obviously fake it is, and how long it takes to get it removed.

So you can see that there is a serious war against fake news so if you are part of those people cooking up stories, I guess it's time to stop.
