YouTube Go Launched in Nigeria With Recent Visitation Of Google CEO Sundai Pichai.

Google CEO -Sundar Pichai- visits Nigeria and also attended a Google For Nigeria event in Lagos yesterday, July 27 2017. The visit wasn't really a surprise like that of Mark Zuckerberg.

Sundar Pichai brought along gifts and good news as the company launched a range of new products, including YouTube Go, an “offline first” version of the video sharing platform -YouTube- for users with slow internet connections.

YouTube Go will allow users preview and download videos, rather than stream, and essentially save on data costs. It's aimed at Nigerians because of the poor internet speed in the country.

Nigerian video content, led by the burgeoning Nollywood film industry and ‘Afrobeats’ pop stars, is extremely popular, but with slow and expensive internet access, some Nigerians limit their online viewing to the workplace where connections might be better according to executives at online video companies like IrokoTV, reports.
It’s certainly not lacking in potential. Even though Nigeria’s internet subscriber base has shrunk over the past year due to a regulatory clampdown on unregistered sim cards, the country still has over 91 million mobile internet users, according to regulators. However, that vast user base is largely undermined by unreliable connections across the country.

Nigeria has some of the slowest internet speeds of the major economies in Africa. Google is betting on its new data-friendly version of YouTube to help local users navigate that problem.

You can have a look at the picture below to see how slow Nigerian internet speed is when compared to countries in the Middle East.

Recall that the Beta version of YouTube Go was recently launched in India; and now, Nigeria will become the second country where the app is been launched.

What is your take on this?

Telecommunications Providers Have Been Threatened By NCC

Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) represented by Prof Umar Dambatta, Executive Vice Chairman made a threat during an investigative session to all the telecommunications services in Nigeria that the NCC is set to sanction any Telcos (MTN, Glo, Airtel and Etisalat) who are performing below the industrial average with poor service delivery. Below are some of his other statements

"The key performance indicators (PKIs) of the NCC when applied to the services of the telcos showed that they were performing below par. This got to the highest level especially in the months of October, November, December 2016, he said.

“We invited the operators and laid bare what was happening to the quality of service which has degraded to unacceptable level,” he said, adding that NCC will be taking compliance action to compel the service providers to provide acceptable standard of service delivery.

“The NCC is going to impose sanction, and there will be ranking on the quality of service so Nigerians will know which to patronise"

The NCC really means business  and they are ready to trash out all those poor and annoying  Network Providers. The NCC seeks to establish a reliable and dependable standard In terms of network availability.

What do you think of all this?

Nigeria:How to Subscribe to GLO Previous Data Plan

This was really a sad one to all Globacom subscribers, because the major reason everyone ported to Glo network was based on the fact that they offered an heavy load data volume for an affordable price .

Glo has intentionally decided to slash the data volume without informing their customers before taking such a drastic step.I am here to explain and also make you understand why they did that.

A concerned Glo subscriber went ahead to contact Glo on their twitter page to ask them the  reason why data volume has to be reduced and this is what Glo NG have to say as seen below;

I hope you understood what Glo said up there? Alright, I'll explain to you guys, in case you didn't grab what Glo said there.

What this means is that, for those that still have an active plan and auto renewal not cancelled will still enjoy the previous data volume.

If you in any way cancelled Auto-renewal of data, kindly sms ACCEPT TO 127 to restore your auto renewal if it has been cancelled. Then, subsequent subscription to that plan will automatically take you back to the old data volume.

For example: If you subscribe for a N1000 plan at the new rate which is 1.6GB, normally, auto-renewal will be activated automatically when you subscribed, auto renewal comes as default if you subscribe to a new plan. Then, before the data expires, subsequent subscription will automatically take you back to the old rate which is N1000 for 3.2GB.

The thing is, you must resubscribe immediately so that you can enjoy the previous data capacity. If you don't resubscribe 3 days after data expiration, you will get half the old data volume.

The strategy is just to lock processing their loyal customers. Policy is just for customer to stick to their Network. If you have any question to ask, or confused about this update, kindly leave a comment below and I'll explain more further.

Hope Nigerians are now informed because GLO doesn't want to loose subscribers and wants to keep more subscribers on the network.

Bad News....Glo Has Reduced Their Data Volume

 Glo the grand master of data, seems to have been unable to keep up with their data promise. Irrespective of thefact that the GLO network is a slow one,it offers one of the  cheapest  data plan in Nigeria.But lately,it seems GLO has been hit by recession GLO has broken it's promise of cheap data.

Last week, it was Etisalat that  reduced their weekly data bundle from 200MB to 150MB for N200 and now Glo NG have chosen to follow suite.the worst part with GLO's reduction is the data has been halved

Previous/Old Glo data Plans

N500 = 1.6GB 7days
N1000 = 3.2GB 30days
N2000 = 7.5GB 30 days
N2500 = 10GB 30days
N3000 = 12GB 30days

Current Data Plans

N500 = 800MB
N1000 = 1.6GB
N2000 = 3.7GB
N2500 = 5GB
N3000 = 6GB

If you study the old data bundle and new data bundle,you will notice and see that Glo just divided to halve it's old data bundle which is not going to be taken lightly by some Nigerians
