Based on a research carried out by App Annie, the Google Play Store saw over 19 billion downloads in Q4 2017, with year-over-year growth at 10%.  That's around 145% more than the Apple App Store, which garnered around 7.7 billion downloads. That being said, the App Store still blew the Play Store away in terms of revenue.

The coolest part about this news, is the fact that the 19 billion downloads is totally calculated based on new downloads and not apps re-installment or app updates.  Emerging markets, specifically India, Indonesia, and Brazil, made up a big portion of the 10% year-over-year growth. India even surpassed the US for combined Play Store and App Store downloads in 2017 thanks to India's record download figures in Q4. The three most popular categories on the Play Store for the year-over-year category were Games, Finance, and Personalization, and they all grew in Q4. Finance is expected to continue to grow in Q1 2018 due to the impending tax season in the US and banks' increased amount of interest (pun not intended) in mobile apps.

When it comes to consumer download, the Play Store and App Store both saw 20% year-over-year growth worldwide for Q4 2017. However, despite the Play Store's much more significant download number, the App Store still saw 95% more in worldwide gross consumer spend in Q4. The App Store accounted for $11.5 billion, while the Play Store got around $5.9 billion. On both platforms, the US had the strongest year-over-year growth in this arena, and Germany was the #3 country in both stores. As for the #2 spot, South Korea took silver for the Play Store, and Taiwan for the App Store.

It is to be noted that world wide consumption of entertainment totally exploded by four times the value of the original from 2015 to 2017. This largely due to the video streaming Apps in apps subscription.  These subscriptions also owe to the Productivity category's #1 position on the Play Store for year-over-year category share growth, much of which can be attributed to Google Drive's introduction of in-app subscriptions for storage.

All Rooted Android Smartphones To Be Blocked By Google Play Service

Rooting, whose one major importance is that it grants you full access to your Android device and to some other System files as well. But Now Google Play Store sets to block some Rooted Users.

Netflix the Biggest streaming and movie download app has recently suspended rooted Android users from accessing its platform. This is really a sad news for Android users using rooted Netflix app. But To every problem there is solution.

According to source, latest updates has it that Google is preparing to block rooted Android users from accessing the Playstore. Google’s latest update to the Google Play Console, as updated during Google IO 2017, includes a Safety Net toggle. This toggle is one of many platforms which gives developers a very simple way of allowing some features to be compatible with the apps they make, and others to be kicked from the pack. As Google Suggests in their developers Documentation.

Moreover  if your Android device is rooted, or an emulator, has an unlocked bootloader, or half a dozen other similar, related elements – it will automatically fail the integrity test. You won’t be able to access some major apps from the playstore.

What Is SafetyNet And How Does It Works?

Safety Net provides a set of services and APIs that help protect your app against security threats, including device tampering, bad URLs, potentially harmful apps, and fake users.”
Safety Net Attestation checks for the following Device Status markers
Certified, genuine device that passes CTS
    Certified device with unlocked bootloader
Genuine but un-certified device, such as when the manufacturer doesn’t apply for certification
Device with custom ROM (not rooted)
    Emulator
    No device (protocol emulator script)
Signs of system integrity compromise, such as rooting
Signs of other active attacks, such as API hooking

That's not all, if your device runs on either Stock or Custom ROM and it's rooted, you are all included in this new development from Google As well. This will be a Bit of Fustration to Android Users But As i made mention above that every problem has a solution.

    Whats The Way Out?

If unfortunately, you are affected by the latest update, then you should download apps from other sources and install on your device. Although Many will likely Unroot their device, which is allowed and this depends on your choice. But many will still love to enjoy more Root access to some certain Apps on their smartphones therefore refusing to Unroot their device. But The above Option Of Downloading fro Another source is simply the best.

    Whats your take on this?
