Nokia 6 (2018) and Nokia 7 Android 8.0 Oreo rolling out

The 2018 version of Nokia 6 which was released in China earlier this month but surprisingly, ran on Android 7.1.1 Nougat out of the box while the Nokia 7 which was released in October too also ran on the same OS. Both of thes smartphones are only available in the Chinese market at the moment. Finally, these phones are receiving an update to Android 8.0 Oreo.

We have no beef with the fact that the Nokia 7 was launched with Nougat, because it's possible that the software was being finalized when Oreo was released. But our contention is with the new Nokia 6  which was launched early this year and yet features Android 7.1 ; that's like awkward especially considering it now has Oreo just 15 days after it went on sale.

It's been trending that some OEMs are purposely avoiding shipping phones with Oreo, so the company doesn't have to support Project Treble, but it's difficult to definitively prove that. However, at least the new Nokia 6 will have Oreo by the time it's released internationally.
