There's been a declibe in the total number of subscribers own by the various networks across the country. Isn't it strange, haven't you ever wondered, that where are these subscribers going to? Are they switching to a feature phone that doesn’t use internet or what? March subscribers data as released by NCCreveals that Telcos lost 1.66 million subscribers generally and the newly released subscribers data shows thatTelcos lost 5.6 million subscribers in April.
Based on the available statistics, it means that in exactly 30days, Telcos lost 5.6 million subscribers… this is not normal. According to the data, active mobile voice subscriptions in Nigeria crashed from 154.4 million in March to149.2 million at the end of April this year.
GSM companies, including MTN, Globacom, Airtel and Etisalat, were responsible for the decline.

Analysis shows that across all the four categories of subscribers, such as GSM, the code division multiple access (CDMA) and fixed wired/wireless operators, as well as Voice Over Internet protocol (VoIP), only GSM segment was responsible for the crash in the subscriber base.
The GSM operators’ active customersdecreased by 3.2 million on the 151.9 million subscribers recorded in March.
MTN had 58.1 million users in April, lost 2.2 million subscribers; Glo had37.2 million customers, lost 58,727 subscribers; Airtel had 34.3 millionsubscribers, lost 319,803; and Etisalathad 19 million customers, lost 576,120 subscribers.
The CDMA operators had 217,566(Visafone had 213,106 customers, while Multi- Links had 4,460) users in April, which was same with the result for March.
The only thing that increase was landline users using Visafone and Multi link with 1,304 users. And 21st Century network had 102,304customers in April, recording an increase of 1,559 users on its March record of 100,745.
The question still remains, where did 5.6 Million subscribers go to? Did they stop using internet or they simply stopped subscribing?
